Steve MarissinkFounding Director“I’ve had a great career,” says Steve Marissink. His statement isn’t a boast. It’s just a fact. Steve is a professional investigator with more than 24 years in law enforcement. His past roles include major crimes investigator (RCMP), Intelligence officer (CSIS) and Director with the Government of Alberta. He has literally conducted thousands of investigations all with the goal of finding the truth. “I’ve had a way of ending up in the middle of things,” Steve says, in what can only be called an understatement. As a police officer assigned to the United Nations in the former Yugoslavia his skill sets led him to be the lead investigator for the ‘Medak Pocket’ in 1994 – an allegation of War Crimes during that civil conflict. His report was submitted to the United Nations and in 2008 he provided testimony at an International War Crimes Trial. In addition to receiving two Commendations for Meritorious Conduct, his notes and documentation are now with the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. Steve has a strong working knowledge of the judicial system, civil law, Human Rights, the Criminal Code of Canada, as well as provincial and federal statutes. He has extensive experience investigating all manner of serious offences; he spent years investigating homicides and wrote the first DNA warrant for the RCMP in Alberta, which led to him becoming the RCMP expert for DNA warrants. “I love the challenge of determining fact over fiction…. putting the pieces of a puzzle together.” Steve is passionate about getting to the truth and is committed to results. He knows investigations have to be done right the first time and has surrounded himself with associates he knows can perform with distinction and are as invested in the right outcome as he is. |
